An Enthralling Evening at the Kinematograph
The Dark Knight? Everything I could have hoped for and more. It was bum-numbingly long, but I can't think of a single scene that I would cut. I am having difficulty with that whole coherent thought thing. And... (for those of you reading on LDV, with their silly HTML-stripping? WARNING! HERE BE SPOILERS!)

- Tommy Lee Jones is still MY Two-face, but holy hell was the make-up/CGI/whatever-the-fuck-they-did-to-Aaron-Eckhart was amazing. It's been a long time since I was seriously impressed, SERIOUSLY impressed by something in a film, but it happened tonight.
- Gary Oldman? You rule.
- I got my hopes up for more Cillian Murphy when there was Scarecrowyness, and was upset when it wasn't him.
- Morgan Freeman's smile? It's a wonderful thing.
- Heath Ledger? Beats the living shit out of Jack Nicholson. I'm sorry, Jack, but he does. Somebody has read Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth and totally taken it to heart. No jaunty Prince soundtrack for THIS Joker, and that's exactly as it should be.
- As the credits rolled at the end, I noticed a name I didn't expect to see - Eric Roberts. Roberts!Master was in it and IT DIDN'T SUCK? That is impressive.
- Michael Gough is still my Alfred too, but I'm developing a soft spot for Caine. Even if he does say bloody far too much.

I could pick little holes - various feministy issues, too much daylight, too much sop at the end - but really? I want to watch it again. Because I need to decide if that is jockeying with The Wicker Man For top spot in my favourite films ever list.
